It all started with a chef who asked too many questions.
For over 25 years, Chris McTaggart worked in professional kitchens across Ontario and around the world. From fine dining to farm-to-table, he honed his craft in some of the best restaurants, always chasing flavor and excellence. But no matter where he was cooking, one question kept following him: Where did this food actually come from?

Our Story
Whether it was greens on a plate or proteins on the grill, Chris McTaggart found himself more interested in the ingredients than the menu. He would ask suppliers where things came from, how the chickens were raised, how the soil was treated, and what organic actually meant. Over time, that curiosity turned into concern, and then into action.
Chris started small: a backyard garden, a few chickens, and some compost experiments. Then came more land, more animals, and a deeper commitment to learning how to grow food that wasn’t just clean, but truly nourishing. What began as a chef’s side project became a way of life.
McTaggart Farms is the product of that journey. It’s a working farm focused on regenerative agriculture, food transparency, and a deep respect for the ecosystems that support us. We raise animals ethically, grow nutrient-dense produce, and care for the soil like our lives depend on it, because they do.
But this isn’t just about farming. It’s about reconnection, building community, and teaching the next generation. Where does food come from? How is it grown? And how do we cook it in ways that respect both the land and our bodies?
Chris’s mission goes beyond the plate. It’s about helping people understand their food, learn to cook with confidence, and rediscover how to nourish themselves and their communities.
Our motto is simple: Real Food. Real People.
